Carvida uses and description

Sort by popularity
Carvida - Used for: Treating high blood pressure or certain types of heart failure. It may also be used after a heart attack to improve survival in certain patients. It may be used along with other medicines. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Carvida is an alpha- and beta-blocker. It works by relaxing the blood vessels, slowing down the heart, and decreasing the amount of blood it pumps out. This decreases blood pressure, helps the heart pump more efficiently, and reduces the workload on the heart.

Pharmacology: Blocks alpha-1 receptors and nonselective beta-receptors to decrease BP.

Indication: Management of essential hypertension; treatment of mild to severe heart failure of ischemic or cardiomyopathic origin; reduction of CV mortality in clinically stable patients who have survived the acute phase of MI and have a left ventricular ejection fraction of 40% or less.

Unlabeled Uses

Angina pectoris.

Carvida is a nonselective beta-adrenergic blocking agent with alpha1-blocking activity and is indicated for the treatment of hypertension and mild or moderate (NYHA class II or III) heart failure of ischemic or cardiomyopathic origin. Carvida is a racemic mixture in which nonselective b-adrenoreceptor blocking activity is present in the S(-) enantiomer and a-adrenergic blocking activity is present in both R(+) and S(-) enantiomers at equal potency. Carvida has no intrinsic sympathomimetic activity. The effect of carvedilol's b-adrenoreceptor blocking activity has been demonstrated in animal and human studies showing that Carvida (1) reduces cardiac output in normal subjects; (2) reduces exercise-and/or isoproterenol-induced tachycardia and (3) reduces reflex orthostatic tachycardia.

Carvida is used to treat heart failure. It is also used to reduce the risk of heart complications after a heart attack. Carvida may also be used to keep blood pressure under control.
