Cicatrizol uses and description

Sort by popularity
Cicatrizol consists of Acexamic Acid, Gentamicin.

Acexamic Acid - Indications: peptic ulcer

A drug used to treat gastrointestinal ulcers, protecting the mucosa of the stomach and intestine (PROTECTOR OF THE GASTRIC MUCOSA).

Gentamicin - Cicatrizol (Gentamicin) is an antibiotic. It fights bacteria in the body.

Cicatrizol (Gentamicin) is used to treat severe or serious bacterial infections.

Cicatrizol (Gentamicin) may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Pharmacology: Inhibits production of bacterial protein, causing bacterial cell death.

Indication: Short-term treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible strains of microorganisms, especially gram-negative bacteria; adjunct to systemic Cicatrizol (Gentamicin) in serious CNS infections (injection); treatment of superficial ocular infections (ophthalmic); treatment of primary (eg, impetigo contagiosa) and secondary (eg, infectious eczemafoid dermatitis) skin infections; skin cysts and superficial skin infections, infection prophylaxis, and aid to healing (topical).

Cicatrizol (Gentamicin) is a broad spectrum aminoglycoside antibiotic. Aminoglycosides work by binding to the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit, causing misreading of t-RNA, leaving the bacterium unable to synthesize proteins vital to its growth. Aminoglycosides are useful primarily in infections involving aerobic, Gram-negative bacteria, such as Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter, and Enterobacter. In addition, some mycobacteria, including the bacteria that cause tuberculosis, are susceptible to aminoglycosides. Infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria can also be treated with aminoglycosides, but other types of antibiotics are more potent and less damaging to the host. In the past the aminoglycosides have been used in conjunction with penicillin-related antibiotics in streptococcal infections for their synergistic effects, particularly in endocarditis. Aminoglycosides are mostly ineffective against anaerobic bacteria, fungi and viruses.

Cicatrizol (Gentamicin) belongs to a group of antibiotics called Aminoglycosides. They work by binding with the 30S bacterial ribosome thus interrupting protein synthesis. When taken orally the drug is not effective due to inactivation in the liver. Therefore it must be administered intavenously, intramuscularly or cutaneously.

Ophthalmic Superficial ophthalmic infections

Adult: As a 0.1% cream; Apply to the affected area 3-4 times daily. Special Populations: Renal impairment: Increase the interval between doses keeping serum creatinine levels as a guide. In patients on dialysis an 8 hr dialysis reduces serum levels of Cicatrizol (Gentamicin) by 50%. At the end of each session give 1-1.7 mg/kg for adults and 2 mg/kg for children. For IV use, each dose of Cicatrizol (Gentamicin) diluted with 50-100 mL of IV fluids given over 20 min. Duration 7-10 days.

Short-term treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible strains of microorganisms, especially gram-negative bacteria; adjunct to systemic Cicatrizol (Gentamicin) in serious CNS infections (intrathecal)

Indications: Severe infections caused by susceptible gm negative organisms eg - Billary tract infections, Brucellosis, Cat scratch disease, Cystic fibrosis, endocarditis, endometritis, gastroenteritis, granuloma inguinale, listeriosis, meningitis, otitis externa, pelvic inflammatory disease, peritonitis, plaque, pneumonia, septicaemia, skin infections, UTI.

Cicatrizol (Gentamicin) is an aminoglycoside antibiotic, used to treat many types of bacterial infections, particularly those caused by Gram-negative bacteria. However, Cicatrizol (Gentamicin) is not used for Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Neisseria meningitidis or Legionella pneumophila bacterial infections (because of the risk of the patient going into shock from lipid A endotoxin found in certain gram negative organisms).

Cicatrizol (Gentamicin) is one of the few heat-stable antibiotics that remain active even after autoclaving, which makes it particularly useful in the preparation of certain microbiological growth media.

Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections, normally Gram-negative bacteria including Pseudomonas, Proteus, Serratia, and Gram-positive Staphylococcus.

Cicatrizol (Gentamicin) is the only heat-stable antibiotic, hence its use during orthopaedic surgery when high temperatures are required for the setting of cements (e.g. hip replacements).
