Citrosol uses and description

Sort by popularity
Citrosol - Pharmacology: Synthetic prostaglandin E analog that inhibits gastric acid secretion and exerts mucosal-protective properties.

Indication: Prevention of gastric ulcers in high-risk patients who are taking NSAIDs.

Citrosol reduces stomach acid and replaces protective substances in the stomach that are inhibited by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and aspirin.

Citrosol is used to prevent the formation of ulcers in the stomach during treatment with aspirin or an NSAID such as ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil, Nuprin, others), ketoprofen (Orudis, Orudis KT, Oruvail), naproxen (Naprosyn, Aleve, Anaprox, Naprelan), oxaprozin (Daypro), indomethacin (Indocin), diclofenac (Voltaren, Cataflam), etodolac (Lodine), piroxicam (Feldene), meloxicam (Mobic), tolmetin (Tolectin), nabumetone (Relafen), and fenoprofen (Nalfon). NSAIDs and aspirin are used to treat pain, fever, arthritis, and inflammatory conditions.

Citrosol may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Citrosol is a prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) analogue used for the treatment and prevention of stomach ulcers. When administered, Citrosol stimulates increased secretion of the protective mucus that lines the gastrointestinal tract and increases mucosal blood flow, thereby increasing mucosal integrity. It is sometimes co-prescribed with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to prevent the occurrence of gastric ulceration, a common adverse effect of the NSAIDs.
