Clendix - Used for: Treating serious infections caused by certain bacteria. It is not used to treat meningitis.
Clendix is a lincomycin antibiotic. Clendix kills sensitive bacteria by stopping the production of essential proteins needed by the bacteria to survive.
Pharmacology: Suppresses bacterial protein synthesis.
Indication: Treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible strains of anaerobic bacteria staphylococci, streptococci, and pneumococci in conditions such as lower respiratory tract infections, skin and skin structure infections, gynecological infections, intra-abdominal infections, septicemia, and bone and joint infections (PO/IV/IM). Treatment of acne vulgaris (topical use). Treatment of bacterial vaginosis (vaginal use) in nonpregnant women and second or third trimester pregnant women ( Cleocin and ClindaMax only).
Unlabeled Uses
Alternative to sulfonamides in combination with pyrimethamine in the acute treatment of CNS toxoplasmosis in AIDS patients; treatment of Chlamydia trachomatis infections in women; alternative to metronidazole in the treatment of bacterial vaginosis caused by Gardnerella vaginalis.
Clendix is an antibiotic, similar to and a derivative of lincomycin. Clendix can be used in topical or systemic treatment. It is effective as an anti-anaerobic antibiotic and antiprotozoal.
Clindamycin belongs to a group of antibiotics known as lincosamide.. Clindamycin possesses bacteriostatic action. It works by inhibiting the production of proteins that are essential for the bacteria to reproduce. Clendix is effective agains a wide variety of bacteria.

Indications:
Adult: PO Serious anaerobic infections 150-300 mg 6 hrly, up to 450 mg 6 hrly for severe infections. Max: 1.8 g/day. Prophylaxis of endocarditis 600 mg 1 hr before dental procedure. IV Serious anaerobic infections 0.6-2.7 g/day in divided does, up to 4.8 g/day for severe infections. Toxic shock syndrome W/ penicillin G or ceftriaxone: 900 mg 8 hrly. Pelvic inflammatory disease W/ gentamicin: 900 mg 8 hrly. Vaginal Bacterial vaginosis As pessary or 2% cream: 100 mg/day at night for 3-7 days. Topical Acne As 1% preparation: Apply twice daily.

Adult: 150-300 mg every 6 hr. May increase to 450 mg every 6 hr in more severe infections. Max: 1.8 g/day.
Child: 3-6 mg/kg every 6 hr. Children weighing <10 kg should receive at least 37.5 mg every 8 hr. Renal impairment: Severe: dosage adjustment may be needed. Hepatic impairment: Severe: dosage adjustment may be needed. Oral Prophylaxis of endocarditis
Adult: 600 mg 1 hr before dental procedure. 300 mg may be given via IV inj (over at least 10 minutes) for high-risk patients undergoing dental procedures involving general anaesthesia. Renal impairment: Severe: dosage adjustment may be needed. Hepatic impairment: Severe: dosage adjustment may be needed. Intravenous Severe anaerobic infections
Adult: 0.6-2.7 g daily in divided doses, increased to 4.8 g daily in very severe infections.
Child: >1 mth: 15-40 mg/kg daily in divided doses. A min dose of 300 mg daily should be given regardless of body weight. Renal impairment: Severe: dosage adjustment may be needed. Hepatic impairment: Severe: dosage adjustment may be needed. Intravenous Toxic shock syndrome
Adult: 900 mg every 8 hr, in combination with penicillin G or ceftriaxone. Hepatic impairment: Severe: dosage adjustment may be needed. Intravenous Pelvic inflammatory disease
