EPTOIN 100 uses and description

Sort by popularity
EPTOIN 100 - EPTOIN 100 is an anti-epileptic drug, also called an anticonvulsant. It works by slowing down impulses in the brain that cause seizures.

EPTOIN 100 is used to control seizures. EPTOIN 100 is not made to treat all types of seizures, and your doctor will determine if it is the right medication for you.

EPTOIN 100 may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Pharmacology: Appears to act at the motor cortex by inhibiting the spread of seizure activity. Possibly works by promoting sodium efflux from neurons, thereby stabilizing threshold against hyperexcitability. Also decreases posttetanic potentiation at synapses.

Indication: Control of generalized tonic-clonic and complex partial (psychomotor, temporal lobe) seizures; prevention and treatment of seizures occurring during or after neurosurgery (excludes oral suspension); control of tonic-clonic type of status epilepticus (parenteral administration).

Unlabeled Uses

Rectal administration.

Used for: Treating certain types of seizures (eg, status epilepticus). It is also used to prevent and treat seizures that may occur during or after brain or nervous system surgery. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

EPTOIN 100 is an anticonvulsant. It works in the brain to block the spread of seizure activity.

EPTOIN 100 is an antiepileptic drug which can be useful in the treatment of epilepsy. The primary site of action appears to be the motor cortex where spread of seizure activity is inhibited. EPTOIN 100 reduces the maximal activity of brain stem centers responsible for the tonic phase of tonic-clonic (grand mal) seizures. EPTOIN 100 acts to dampen the unwanted, runaway brain activity seen in seizure by reducing electrical conductance among brain cells. It lacks the sedation effects associated with phenobarbital. There are some indications that EPTOIN 100 has other effects, including anxiety control and mood stabilization, although it has never been approved for those purposes by the FDA. EPTOIN 100 is primarily metabolized by CYP2C9.

EPTOIN 100 is used to treat epilepsy (also known as fits or seizures). It may be used on its own or together with other epilepsy medicines. EPTOIN 100 is also used to relieve pain in a painful nerve condition that affects the face called trigeminal neuralgia.
