Grilinctus Syrup - Chlormezanone (marketed under the brandname Trancopal) is a drug used as an anxiolytic and a muscle relaxant. Its use was discontinued in many countries in 1996, due to rare but serious cases of toxic epidermal necrolysis.
Grilinctus Syrup, commonly marketed as its salt chlorphenamine maleate (CPM; Chlor-Trimeton, Piriton, Chlor-Tripolon), is a first-generation alkylamine antihistamine used in the prevention of the symptoms of allergic conditions such as rhinitis and urticaria. Its sedative effects are relatively weak compared to other first-generation antihistamines. Grilinctus Syrup is one of the most commonly-used antihistamines in small-animal veterinary practice as well. Although not generally approved as an antidepressant or anti-anxiety medication, Grilinctus Syrup appears to have these properties as well. Grilinctus Syrup is part of a series of antihistamines including pheniramine (Naphcon) and its halogenated derivatives and others including fluorpheniramine, dexchlorpheniramine (Polaramine), brompheniramine (Dimetapp), dexbrompheniramine (Drixoral), deschlorpheniramine, dipheniramine (also known as triprolidine with the trade name Actifed), and iodopheniramine.
The halogenated alkylamine antihistamines all exhibit optical isomerism, and Grilinctus Syrup in the indicated products is racemic Grilinctus Syrup maleate, whereas dexchlorpheniramine (Polaramine) is the dextrorotary (right-handed) stereoisomer.
It is also known as Comakin in Taiwan and parts of Asia.
Dextromethorphan (DXM or DM) is an antitussive drug. It is one of the active ingredients used to prevent coughs in many over-the-counter cold and cough medicines. Dextromethorphan has also found other uses in medicine, ranging from pain relief to psychological applications. It is sold in syrup, tablet, spray, and lozenge forms manufactured under several different brand names and generic labels. In its pure form, dextromethorphan occurs as a white powder.
When exceeding label-specified maximum dosages, dextromethorphan acts as a dissociative psychedelic drug. Its mechanism of action is as an NMDA receptor antagonist, producing effects similar to those of the controlled substances ketamine and phencyclidine (PCP).
