Hemosin uses and description

Sort by popularity
Hemosin - Hemosin is a man-made form of a protein that occurs naturally in the body and helps the blood clot.

Hemosin is used to treat bleeding episodes in people with certain medical conditions such as aplastic anemia (lack of blood cells and platelets), cirrhosis of the liver, placenta abruptio (early separation of the placenta in pregnancy), urinary bleeding, and certain types of cancer. Hemosin is also used to prevent bleeding after heart surgery or placement of a shunt near the liver to control high blood pressure

Hemosin may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Pharmacology: Inhibits fibrinolysis to stop bleeding.

Indication: Treatment of excessive bleeding from systemic hyperfibrinolysis and urinary fibrinolysis.

Unlabeled Uses

Prevention of recurrence of subarachnoid hemorrhage; management of amegakaryocytic thrombocytopenia; abortion; or prevention of attacks of hereditary angioneurotic edema.

Hemosin works as an antifibrinolytic. It is a derivative of the amino acid lysine. The fibrinolysis-inhibitory effects of Hemosin appear to be exerted principally via inhibition of plasminogen activators and to a lesser degree through antiplasmin activity. Hemosin may be a possible prophylactic for vascular disease, as it may prevent formation of lipoprotein (a), a risk factor for vascular disease.
