Juvisync - Simvastatin is an HMG CoA reductase inhibitor, or "statin." Simvastatin reduces levels of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL) and triglycerides in the blood, while increasing levels of "good" cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein, or HDL).
Juvisync is an oral diabetes medicine that helps control blood sugar levels. It works by regulating the levels of insulin your body produces after eating.
The combination of simvastatin and Juvisync is for people with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes who also have high cholesterol or triglycerides (types of fat) in the blood. This medication is not for treating type 1 diabetes.
Simvastatin and Juvisync is also used to lower the risk of stroke, heart attack, and other heart complications in people with diabetes, coronary heart disease, or other risk factors.
Simvastatin and Juvisync may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Used for: Treating type 2 diabetes and lowering high cholesterol and triglycerides in certain patients. It also increases high-density lipoprotein (HDL, "good") cholesterol levels. It is used along with diet and exercise. It is used in certain patients to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and death due to coronary heart disease. It is also used to reduce the need for medical procedures to open blocked blood vessels. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Juvisync is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor and HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) combination. The DPP-4 inhibitor works by increasing the amount of insulin released by your body and decreasing the amount of sugar made by your body. The statin works by reducing the production of certain fatty substances in the body, including cholesterol.
