Lanzac - Pharmacology: Unknown. May control psychotic symptoms through antagonism of selected dopamine and serotonin receptors in the CNS.

Indication: PO

Treatment of schizophrenia; treatment of acute mixed or manic episodes associated with bipolar I disorder; maintenance monotherapy of bipolar disorder; in combination with lithium or valproate for short-term treatment of acute mixed or manic episodes associated with bipolar I disorder; in combination with fluoxetine for the treatment of depressive episodes associated with bipolar disorder; in combination with fluoxetine for the treatment of treatment-resistant depression.

Treatment of schizophrenia (ER injection); treatment of agitation associated with schizophrenia and bipolar I mania (short-acting injection).

Unlabeled Uses

Treatment of delusional parasitosis; treatment of stuttering.

Lanzac is an antipsychotic medication that affects chemicals in the brain.

Lanzac is used to treat the symptoms of psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (manic depression) in adults and children who are at least 13 years old.

Lanzac is sometimes used together with other antipsychotic medications or antidepressants.

Lanzac may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Lanzac, an atypical antipsychotic agent, is used to treat both negative and positive symptoms of schizophrenia, acute mania with bipolar disorder, agitation, and psychotic symptoms in dementia. Future uses may include the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder and severe behavioral disorders in autism. Structurally and pharmacologically similar to clozapine, Lanzac binds to alpha(1), dopamine, histamine H1, muscarinic, and serotonin type 2 (5-HT) receptors.

Oral Schizophrenia

Adult: Initially, 5-10 mg daily adjusted in steps of 5 mg, according to response. Usual range: 5-20 mg daily. Doses >10 mg should be given only after clinical reassessment. Max: 20 mg daily. Renal impairment: Initiate at lower dose (5 mg) and increase cautiously. Hepatic impairment: Initiate at lower dose (5 mg) and increase cautiously. Oral Acute mixed or manic episodes in bipolar disorder

Adult: Initially, 10 or 15 mg daily as monotherapy or 10 mg daily when used as part of combination therapy. Adjust dose in steps of 5 mg; usual range: 5-20 mg daily. For prevention of recurrence: Start with 10 mg daily. Renal impairment: Initiate at lower dose (5 mg) and increase cautiously Hepatic impairment: Initiate at lower dose (5 mg) and increase cautiously Intramuscular Rapid control of agitation and disturbed behaviour in schizophrenia or mania

Adult: Initially, 5-10 mg followed by 5-10 mg as required 2 hr later. Max: 3 inj per 24-hr period; max (including oral olanzapine): 20 mg/day. May give injections for up to 3 days but should transfer to oral therapy as soon as possible. Hepatic impairment: Dose adjustments may be needed.

Lanzac is used to treat schizophrenia. It helps to relieve symptoms common in schizophrenia, such as distorted thinking and emotional instability. It is also used to treat a dysfunctional mood condition called bipolar disorder.

Lanzac Intramuscular injection is used to quickly relieve symptoms common in schizophrenia, such as distorted thinking, emotional instability and distress. It is also used to quickly relieve symptoms common in a dysfunctional mood condition called bipolar disorder, such as agitation, aggressiveness and extreme excitement.

For prevention of recurrence: Start w/ 10 mg/day. IM Rapid control of agitation and disturbed behaviour in schizophrenia or mania Initial: 5-10 mg, followed by 5-10 mg 2 hr later if needed. Max: 3 inj per 24-hr period; Max (including oral doses): 20 mg/day. Max duration: 3 days; transfer to oral therapy as soon as possible.
