Neurontin uses and description

Sort by popularity
Neurontin - Used for: Treating certain types of seizures associated with epilepsy when used along with other medicines. It may also be used for treating nerve pain associated with herpes zoster (shingles) infection (postherpetic neuralgia). It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Neurontin is an anticonvulsant. Exactly how it works to prevent seizures and treat nerve pain is not known.

Neurontin is an antiepileptic drug. Chemical structure is similar to GABA fulfilling the function of the inhibitory neurotransmitter in the CNS. It is believed that the mechanism of action of Neurontin is different from other anticonvulsants acting through GABA synapses (including valproate, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, inhibitors of GABA-transaminase, inhibitors of GABA capture, GABA agonists and prodrugs of GABA). In in vitro studies showed that Neurontin is characterized by the presence of a new peptide binding sites in the brain tissues of rats, including the hippocampus and cerebral cortex, which may be relevant to the anticonvulsant activity of Neurontin and its derivatives. Neurontin in clinically relevant concentrations is not associated with other conventional drugs and neurotransmitter receptors in the brain.

The final mechanism of action of Neurontin is not defined.

Neurontin, an analog of GABA, is used as an anticonvulsant to treat partial seizures, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and painful neuropathies. Potential uses include monotherapy of refractory partial seizure disorders, and treatment of spasticity in multiple sclerosis, tremor. mood disorders, and attenuation of disruptive behaviors in dementia. Neurontin has high lipid solubility, is not metabolized by the liver, has no protein binding, and doesn't possess the usual drug interactions.

Indication: For the management of postherpetic neuralgia in adults and as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial seizures with and without secondary generalization in patients over 12 years of age with epilepsy.

Neurontin is an anti-epileptic medication, also called an anticonvulsant. It affects chemicals and nerves in the body that are involved in the cause of seizures and some types of pain.

Neurontin is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat seizures caused by epilepsy in adults and children who are at least 12 years old. Neurontin is also used with other medications to treat partial seizures in children who are 3 to 12 years old.

Neurontin is also used to treat nerve pain caused by herpes virus or shingles (herpes zoster).

Neurontin may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Neurontin is used to treat epilepsy (also known as seizures or fits). It is also used to relieve nerve pain in people with diabetes or shingles. Neurontin may also be used to relieve hot flushes in women with breast cancer and in women who have passed menopause.

Postherpetic Neuralgia Neurontin (gabapentin) is indicated for the management of postherpetic neuralgia in adults. Epilepsy Neurontin (gabapentin) is indicated as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial seizures with and without secondary generalization in patients over 12 years of age with epilepsy. Neurontin is also indicated as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial seizures in pediatric patients age 3 –12 years.

Indications: epilepsy, neuropathic pain

As monotherapy in the treatment of partial seizures w/ & w/o secondary generalization in adults & childn >12 yr. As adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial seizures w/ & w/o secondary generalization in adults & childn ≥3 yr. Treatment of neuropathic pain in adults ≥18 yr.

Indications: Adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial seizures with secondary generalisation.

It is particularly useful in controlling secondarily generalised tonic-clonic seizures.

Neuropathic pain.

Neurontin (brand name Neurontin) is a GABA analogue. It was originally developed for the treatment of epilepsy, and currently, Neurontin is widely used to relieve pain, especially neuropathic pain.
