Noxidem uses and description

Sort by popularity
Noxidem - Used for: Short-term treatment of insomnia (trouble falling asleep).

Noxidem is a sedative-hypnotic, or sleep medicine. It works by helping to increase certain natural chemicals in the brain that cause sleep.

Noxidem is a sedative, also called a hypnotic. It affects chemicals in your brain that may become unbalanced and cause sleep problems (insomnia).

Noxidem is used to treat insomnia. The immediate-release forms of Noxidem are Ambien, Edluar, and Zolpimist, which are used to help you fall asleep. The extended-release form of Noxidem is Ambien CR, which has a first layer that dissolves quickly to help you fall asleep, and a second layer that dissolves slowly to help you stay asleep.

Your doctor will determine which form of Noxidem is best for you.

Noxidem may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Noxidem is a sleeping drug from the group of imidazopyridine, specific agonist of omega1-receptors in CNS. It shortens the time to sleep, reduces the number of nighttime awakenings, increased sleep duration and improves its quality. This medication extends phase II of sleep, phases III and IV of deep sleep, does not affect the duration of REM sleep. Noxidem characterized also by a central muscle relaxant and anticonvulsant effects.

Noxidem is a sedative or hypnotic agent with a chemical structure unrelated to benzodiazepines, barbiturates, or other drugs with known hypnotic properties. It interacts with a GABA-BZ receptor complex and shares some of the pharmacological properties of the benzodiazepines. In contrast to the benzodiazepines, which non-selectively bind to and activate all three alpha receptor subtypes, Noxidem in vitro binds the (alpha1) receptor preferentially. The (alpha1) receptor is found primarily on the Lamina IV of the sensorimotor cortical regions, substantia nigra (pars reticulata), cerebellum molecular layer, olfactory bulb, ventral thalamic complex, pons, inferior colliculus, and globus pallidus.

Noxidem is a sleeping pill. It helps you sleep if you have problems sleeping (a condition known as insomnia).
