Sazo - Sazo (brand name Azulfidine in the U.S., Salazopyrin in Europe) is a sulfa drug, a derivative of Mesalazine (5-aminosalicylic acid abbreviated as 5-ASA), used primarily as an anti-inflammatory agent in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease as well as for rheumatoid arthritis. It may be abbreviated SSZ. It is not a pain killer.

Sazo is used to treat ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. These diseases cause inflammation in the digestive tract (bowel) and are also known as "inflammatory bowel diseases". Sazo helps to relieve the diarrhoea, stomach cramps and pain commonly experienced by people with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's Disease. Sazo is also used to treat other inflammatory illnesses such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Sazo helps to reduce the inflammation and pain commonly experienced by people with RA.

Indications: ulcerative colitis, crohn`s disease, rheumatoid arthritis

Tablets and delayed-release tablets Treatment of mild to moderate ulcerative colitis; adjunctive therapy in severe ulcerative colitis; prolongation of the remission period between acute attacks of ulcerative colitis. Delayed-release tablets Treatment of rheumatoid arthritis in patients who have responded inadequately to salicylates or other NSAIDs; treatment of children with polyarticular-course juvenile rheumatoid arthritis who have responded inadequately to salicylates or other NSAIDs. Unlabeled UsesAnkylosing spondylitis, Crohn disease, granulomatous colitis, regional enteritis.
