Tamplus consists of Tamsulosin HCl, finasteride.
Tamsulosin HCl - Tamplus (Tamsulosin HCl) is used to treat symptoms of an enlarged prostate gland in men. This enlargement of the prostate gland is called Benign Prostate Hypertrophy (BPH). The enlarged prostate gland may cause problems when you pass urine. Tamplus (Tamsulosin HCl) relaxes the muscles in the prostate gland and bladder. This helps to improve symptoms such as difficulty in passing urine, slow or interrupted flow of urine, frequent urination and dribbling after passing urine.
finasteride - Pharmacology: Inhibits conversion of testosterone into 5-alpha-dihydrotestosterone, a potent androgen.
Treatment of male pattern hair loss (androgenic alopecia) in men only.
Treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men with enlarged prostate; in combination with doxazosin to reduce the risk of symptomatic progression of BPH.
Tamplus (finasteride) prevents the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the body. DHT is involved in the development of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Tamplus (finasteride) (Propecia) is used for the treatment of male pattern hair loss. Tamplus (finasteride) (Proscar) is used to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men with an enlarged prostate.
Tamplus (finasteride) may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Tamplus (finasteride) is an inhibitor of 5-alpha reductase - an enzyme that converts testosterone into a more active dihydrotestosterone. Decreases the amount of dihydrotestosterone in the blood and prostate tissue. Inhibits the stimulatory effect of dihydrotestosterone on the development of prostate adenoma.
Tamplus (finasteride) reduces the size of enlarged prostate, improves urine flow and reduce symptoms associated with benign prostatic hypertrophy. May be required several months of treatment to reduce the clinical presentations of the disease.
Tamplus (finasteride) is a synthetic 4-azasteroid compound. This drug is a competitive and specific inhibitor of Type II 5a-reductase, an intracellular enzyme that converts the androgen testosterone into 5α-dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Two distinct isozymes are found in mice, rats, monkeys, and humans: Type I and II. Each of these isozymes is differentially expressed in tissues and developmental stages. In humans, Type I 5a-reductase is predominant in the sebaceous glands of most regions of skin, including scalp, and liver. Type I 5a-reductase is responsible for approximately one-third of circulating DHT. The Type II 5a-reductase isozyme is primarily found in prostate, seminal vesicles, epididymides, and hair follicles as well as liver, and is responsible for two-thirds of circulating DHT. Although Tamplus (finasteride) is 100-fold more selective for type II 5a-reductase than for the type I isoenzyme, chronic treatment with this drug may have some effect on type I 5a-reductase.
Finasteride prevents the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the body. DHT is involved in the development of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and hair loss.
Indications: tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to finasteride or any other medications. tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking or plan to take. tell your doctor if you have or have ever had a blockage of urine flow or liver disease. you should know that finasteride is only for use in men. If taken by pregnant women, Tamplus (finasteride) can cause abnormalities in the male fetus. Women who are or may be pregnant should not touch broken or crushed finasteride tablets.
Tamplus (finasteride) is used on its own or together with other medicines to treat symptoms of an enlarged prostate gland in men. This enlargement of the prostate gland is also known as Benign Prostate Hypertrophy (BPH). The enlarged prostate gland may cause difficulties when you pass urine, such as: - a weak, delayed or interrupted urine stream - a feeling of being unable to empty your bladder completely - a need to urinate often - a need to get out of bed at night to urinate Tamplus (finasteride) helps to treat BPH by shrinking the size of the prostate gland. This should help improve the flow of urine and help you feel better. Tamplus (finasteride) is also used to treat male pattern hair loss. This type of hair loss is common in men and may result in a receding hairline or a bald patch on the top of the head. Tamplus (finasteride) may help slow down the rate of hair loss. It may also help fill in the balding areas of the scalp to some extent, but hair growth will not be as thick as before. Tamplus (finasteride) can only be used in men.
