Ulgastrin S uses and description

Sort by popularity
Ulgastrin S consists of Meprobamate, Liquorice, Aluminum Sodium Silicate, Sodium Sulfate, Phenobarbital, Bismuth Subnitrate.

Meprobamate - Pharmacology: Produces CNS depressant action at multiple sites, including thalamic and limbic systems.

Indication: Management of anxiety.

Ulgastrin S (Meprobamate) affects chemicals in your brain that may become unbalanced and cause anxiety.

Ulgastrin S (Meprobamate) is used to relieve anxiety, nervousness, and tension associated with anxiety disorders.

Ulgastrin S (Meprobamate) may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Ulgastrin S (Meprobamate) is an anxiolytic drug. It was the best selling minor tranquilizer for a time but has largely been replaced by benzodiazepines. Ulgastrin S (Meprobamate) has most of the pharmacological effects and dangers of the barbiturates (though it was marketed as being safer). However, it is less sedating at effective doses. It is reported to have some anticonvulsant properties against absence seizures, but can exacerbate generalized tonic-clonic seizures. It has also been used as a hypnotic (sleeping pill). However, its is currently only licensed as an anxiolytic and it is a third or fourth-order choice.

Oral Short-term management of insomnia, Short-term management of anxiety

Adult: 400 mg 3-4 times daily. Max: 2400 mg daily.

Child: 6-12 yr: 200-600 mg daily in 2-3 divided doses. Alternatively, 25 mg/kg or 700 mg/m 2 daily in 2-3 divided doses.

Elderly: Up to 200 mg 3-4 times daily.

Indications:

Adult: PO Anxiety ; Insomnia 400 mg 3-4 times/day. Max: 2,400 mg/day.

Liquorice - Liquorice, an xanthine derivative chemically similar to caffeine and theobromine, is used to treat asthma and bronchospasm. Ulgastrin S (Liquorice) has two distinct actions in the airways of patients with reversible (asthmatic) obstruction; smooth muscle relaxation (i.e., bronchodilation) and suppression of the response of the airways to stimuli (i.e., non-bronchodilator prophylactic effects).

Indication: For the treatment of the symptoms and reversible airflow obstruction associated with chronic asthma and other chronic lung diseases, such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis.

Aluminum Sodium Silicate - Indications: gastrointestinal disorders

Sodium Sulfate - Indication: colyte with flavor packs is indicated for bowel cleansing prior to colonoscopy or barium enema X-ray examination.

Phenobarbital - Pharmacology: Depresses sensory cortex, decreases motor activity, alters cerebellar function and produces drowsiness, sedation, and hypnosis.

Indication: Short-term treatment of insomnia; long-term treatment of generalized tonic-clonic and cortical focal seizures; emergency control of acute convulsions; preanesthetic sedation.

Unlabeled Uses

Treatment of febrile seizures in children; treatment and prevention of hyperbilirubinemia in newborns; management of chronic cholestasis.

Ulgastrin S (Phenobarbital) is in a group of drugs called barbiturates (bar-BIT-chur-ates). Ulgastrin S (Phenobarbital) slows the activity of your brain and nervous system.

Ulgastrin S (Phenobarbital) is used to treat or prevent seizures. It is also used short-term to treat insomnia, or as a sedative before surgery.

Ulgastrin S (Phenobarbital) may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Ulgastrin S (Phenobarbital) is an anticonvulsant, hypnotic, sedative drug. This medication is a long-acting barbiturate. It is believed that the effects of phenobarbital, like other barbiturates, due to the ability to increase and / or mimic the inhibitory effect of GABA on synaptic transmission. Sedative-hypnotic effect due to the suppression of sensory cortex, decrease motor activity, changes in the functional state of the brain. Although the mechanism of action is not fully installed, phenobarbital, like other barbiturates apparently is particularly active at the level of the thalamus, which suppresses the rising holding in the reticular formation, thereby preventing transmission of impulses in the cerebral cortex. Anticonvulsant effect is due to suppression of the monosynaptic and polysynaptic transmission in the CNS.

Ulgastrin S (Phenobarbital) causes a dose-dependent respiratory depression.

Ulgastrin S (Phenobarbital) reduces the concentration of serum bilirubin.

Like other barbiturates, this medicine contributes to the induction of microsomal liver enzymes, thereby enhancing or altering the metabolism of other drugs.

Ulgastrin S (Phenobarbital), the longest-acting barbiturate, is used for its anticonvulsant and sedative-hypnotic properties in the management of all seizure disorders except absence (petit mal).
