General Surgery: For peritoneal lavage in peritonitis to decontaminate peritoneal cavity. For irrigation of operative wounds before closure, especially after abdominal operations. Plastic Surgery: For decontamination of traumatic wounds. For preoperative preparation of area before skin grafting. Urosurgery: Preoperative urinary bladder instillation in the course of trans-urethral operations. During routine catheterisation to prevent post-catheterisation infection rate. Colorectal Surgery: For preoperative colonic wash for decontamination of colon. Intraoperative wash of the affected segment for regional antisepsis. Orthopaedic Surgery: For painting the affected limb prior to immobilizing it in a plaster of Paris cast. For washing osteomyletic cavity. Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery: Routine irrigation of operative area as a prophylactic against wound infection. For pericardial or pleural wash during routine cardiac, pulmonary and vascular operations.
