Zitroflam (Azithromycin) is used to treat many different types of infections caused by bacteria, such as respiratory infections, skin infections, ear infections, and sexually transmitted diseases.

Zitroflam (Azithromycin) may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Pharmacology: Interferes with microbial protein synthesis.

Indication: Adults Oral tablets and oral suspension (immediate-release)

Treatment of acute bacterial exacerbation of COPD, acute bacterial sinusitis, community-acquired pneumonia, pharyngitis/tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes in patients who cannot use first-line therapy, uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections, urethritis and cervicitis, and genital ulcer disease (in men) caused by susceptible organisms; prevention/treatment of disseminated Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) disease in patients with advanced HIV infection.

Oral suspension (ER)

Treatment of acute bacterial sinusitis and community-acquired pneumonia caused by susceptible organisms.

Ophthalmic solution

Treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis caused by susceptible organisms.

IV infusion

Treatment of community-acquired pneumonia and pelvic inflammatory disease caused by susceptible organisms.

Children Oral tablets and oral suspension (immediate-release)

Treatment of acute bacterial sinusitis, acute otitis media caused by susceptible organisms, community-acquired pneumonia, and pharyngitis/tonsillitis caused by S. pyogenes in patients who cannot use first-line therapy.

Treatment of community-acquired pneumonia caused by susceptible organisms.

Unlabeled Uses

Acne vulgaris (topical), acute pharyngitis or tonsillitis (group A streptococcal) in children, acute skin and soft tissue infections, babesiosis, chlamydial infections caused by Chlamydia trachomatis, granuloma inguinale caused by Klebsiella granulomatis, early lime disease, lower respiratory tract infections, prevention of coronary events, prophylaxis after a sexual assault, rosacea (topical or oral), traveler\'s diarrhea, and treatment of cholera in adults.

Used for: Treating infections caused by certain bacteria. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Zitroflam (Azithromycin) is a macrolide antibiotic. It slows the growth of, or sometimes kills, sensitive bacteria by reducing the production of important proteins needed by the bacteria to survive.

Zitroflam (Azithromycin) is an macrolide antibiotic of azalides group. This medication inhibits RNA-dependent protein synthesis of sensitive microorganisms.

It active against gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus spp. (including Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes group A); gram-negative bacteria: Haemophilus influenzae, Haemophilus parainfluenzae, Haemophilus ducreyi, Moraxella catarrhalis, Escherichia coli, Bordetella pertussis, Bordetella parapertussis, Borrelia burgdorferi, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Campylobacter spp., Legionella pneumophila; anaerobic bacteria: Bacteroides fragilis.

Zitroflam (Azithromycin), a semisynthetic antibiotic belonging to the macrolide subgroup of azalides, is used to treat STDs due to chlamydia and gonorrhea, community-acquired pneumonia, pelvic inflammatory disease, pediatric otitis media and pharyngitis, and Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) in patients with advanced HIV disease. Similar in structure to erythromycin. Zitroflam (Azithromycin) reaches higher intracellular concentrations than erythromycin, increasing its efficacy and duration of action.

Oral Skin and soft tissue infections

Adult: 500 mg once daily for 3 days. Alternatively, 500 mg as a single dose on the 1st day followed by 250 mg once daily for 4 days.

Child: >6 mth: 10 mg/kg; 15–25 kg: 200 mg; 26–35 kg: 300 mg; 36–45 kg: 400 mg. Doses to be taken once daily for 3 days Oral Respiratory tract infections

Adult: 500 mg once daily for 3 days. Alternatively, 500 mg as a single dose on the 1st day followed by 250 mg once daily for 4 days.

Child: >6 mth: 10 mg/kg; 15–25 kg: 200 mg; 26–35 kg: 300 mg; 36–45 kg: 400 mg. Doses to be taken once daily for 3 days Oral Uncomplicated genital infections due to Chlamydia trachomatis

Adult: 1 g as a single dose. Oral Uncomplicated gonorrhoea

Adult: 2 g as a single dose. Oral Prophylaxis of disseminated MAC infections

Adult: 1.2 g once every wk. For treatment or secondary prophylaxis: 500 mg once daily with other antimycobacterials.

Child: >6 mth: 10 mg/kg once daily for 3 days. Oral Granuloma inguinale

Adult: Initially, 1 g followed by 500 mg daily. Alternatively, 1 g once a wk for at least 3 wk, until all lesions have completely healed. Intravenous Active immunisation against typhoid fever caused by Salmonella typhi

Adult: 500 mg once daily for 7 days.

Indications:

Adult: PO Resp tract infections; Skin and soft tissue infections 500 mg once daily for 3 days. Uncomplicated genital chlamydial infections 1 g as a single dose. Uncomplicated gonorrhoea 2 g as a single dose. Prophylaxis of disseminated MAC infections 1.2 g once wkly. Treatment or secondary prophylaxis: W/ other antimycobacterials: 500 mg once daily. Typhoid 500 mg once daily for 7 days. Granuloma inguinale Initial: 1 g, then 500 mg/day until all lesions have healed completely.
